Which Should I Prefer? Xeomin or Botox?

Both Botox and Xeomin provide effective means to eradicate lines and wrinkles on your forehead. And while both neuromodulators are derived from the common source, there are very few differences in the formulations.

What is Xeomin?

Like Botox, Xeomin is also made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In both injectable products, their active ingredient weakens the facial muscles which cause wrinkles to appear. However, the Xeomin doesn’t hold the same protein additives which are found in Botox. Since it doesn't hold the protein preservatives, Xeomin can directly bond with your facial muscles without freeing itself from the protein. It's mainly a purer and refined formulation that doesn't cause the human body to create antibodies against the protein.

Who should get Xeomin?
Anyone can get Xeomin. For patients whose bodies have begun making antibodies against the Botox proteins, Xeomin might prove an efficient way to eliminate wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and brow.

What conditions do they treat?
Botox and Xeomin decrease the appearance of vertical frown lines that appear between your eyes, sometimes called 'The Elevens.' Both treatments are also useful for the crow's feet,  squint lines and horizontal lines on your forehead. Results with Botox appear within 3 - 5 days and last for 3 to 6 months before treatment must be repeated. Results with Xeomin may require up to 4 days to appear and repeat treatments are needed every 3 months.

Are there side effects?
With both treatments, bruising and mild irritation at injection sites may occur. Many times there is swelling and redness after botox, but best botox creams like Proboxin are ideal choices for such ailments.

Is there a rate difference?
Both Xeomin and Botox cost approximately the same amount per unit, and a comparable number of units are needed to treat the same areas.
